How does applying on SuccessFactors work?
SAP's reference flow for external candidates has a one-time account step, then an application form: your resume or CV, a cover letter if you want, the mandatory profile fields, background sections such as work experience and education, the employer's own sections and the data privacy consent, then Apply.
Create an account and agree to data privacy
A first-time applicant on that company's career site creates an account and agrees to the data privacy statement. SAP calls this a one-time activity.
Add your resume
In the Resume/CV box you upload the file from your device, Dropbox or Google Drive. When the upload succeeds, information from the resume is parsed into the designated candidate profile fields.
Complete the profile
Fill the mandatory fields, marked with a red asterisk, and the background sections the employer uses, such as Outside Work Experience, Formal Education, Language Skills and Geographic Mobility.
Employer sections and consent
Employment information, country-specific sections and a statement of agreement follow; then you read and accept the data privacy consent.
Apply
After you choose Apply, a success message appears and the system emails you a confirmation that the application was received.
Which resume files does SuccessFactors accept?
SAP knowledge base article 3777956 says the Resume/CV field in the Reimagined Candidate Experience supports .pdf, .doc, .docx, .txt and .rtf, and that a .jpg or .jpeg upload is rejected as an unsupported file type. Upload a text-based PDF or DOCX; a photo or scan of a resume will not go in that field.
SuccessFactors stores your work history in structured sections, such as Outside Work Experience and Formal Education. Parsing fills them only as well as it can read your file, so a single reading order, standard headings and a date next to every job matter more here than visual design.
Ruubu exports a real text layer from every template, and 42 of its 55 templates carry the ATS-safe label. The ATS-friendly resume checklist shows the layouts that get read in the wrong order.
What should you check after SuccessFactors parses your resume?
SAP's own test script tells testers to check the candidate profile fields parsed from the resume, and you should do the same before you apply. Go through each background section, every mandatory field with a red asterisk, and anything the parser left empty or put in the wrong place.
- Outside Work Experience: one row per job, with the right employer, title and dates.
- Formal Education: school, degree and dates in their own fields.
- Language Skills: add any language the parser did not place, with your level.
- Mandatory fields: everything with a red asterisk must be complete before Apply works.
- Your profile stays: account creation is a one-time step on that career site, so keep the profile current for the next application there.
What else does a SuccessFactors application ask?
After the profile, SAP's reference flow has employment information, country-specific sections and a statement of agreement, then the data privacy consent. Employers configure these sections, so the questions differ between companies and countries; read them on the page rather than relying on what you saw on another company's site.
Some jobs are marked for Quick Apply, which shows account creation and the application fields on one page without a full profile; SAP notes it is not supported on internal career sites. With Ruubu for Chrome, visa, sponsorship and salary answers come only from what you saved yourself.
How does Ruubu help with a SuccessFactors application?
Ruubu gives you a text-based PDF or DOCX that fits the Resume/CV field and helps fill the profile. On SuccessFactors, Ruubu for Chrome uses its general field matcher, labelled Beta: after you check a preview it fills the fields it recognises and attaches your resume PDF; the sections and the Apply button stay with you.
Before you upload, open What a parser reads in the editor's Download menu: it reads your exported PDF and DOCX back and shows the name, contact details, headings and each job with its dates, in the order a rule-based parser finds them.
Run the free resume check as well: it scores the resume out of 100 across 14 checks and lists what to fix first.

Questions about SAP SuccessFactors
Can I apply on SuccessFactors without uploading a resume?
SAP's reference flow notes that you can fill every candidate profile field by hand without uploading a CV. Whether the Resume/CV field is required is the employer's choice.
Why was my resume rejected as an unsupported file type?
In the Reimagined Candidate Experience the Resume/CV field takes .pdf, .doc, .docx, .txt and .rtf. An image such as a .jpg is rejected. Export your resume as a PDF or DOCX instead.
What is Quick Apply on SuccessFactors?
A one-page view with account creation and the application fields, so you can apply without completing a full profile. Recruiters turn it on per job, and SAP notes it is not supported on internal career sites.
Does Ruubu fill SuccessFactors forms?
Yes, in Beta: Ruubu for Chrome fills the fields its general field matcher recognises after you check a preview, and attaches your resume PDF. You complete the rest and choose Apply yourself.
