How it works
A standout resume in three free steps
Start in seconds
Open a blank, ATS-safe resume and fill it in. No design skills, no software to install. Everything saves automatically as you type.
Make it strong
Pick from 55 templates, set your color and type in the design panel, and tighten each line: lead bullets with results, add real numbers, and mirror the job's keywords.
Download and apply
Export a PDF that parses in applicant tracking systems, then send it with confidence. Free (small Ruubu watermark), no credit card.
Templates that parse cleanly
Every one of the 55 templates is built for applicant tracking systems first. These previews are rendered live from real example resumes.
What every template has
- Single column, standard section headings
- Real, selectable text the ATS can parse
- Letter and A4, set in the design panel
- Free PDF download, no credit card
Write it so the ATS and the recruiter both read it
What an ATS does with your resume
An applicant tracking system (ATS) is the software employers use to collect, scan and rank resumes before a recruiter sees them. Most large employers use one, so when you apply online your resume usually meets a machine first.
The ATS parses your resume into fields (name, contact, experience, skills, education), then matches it against the job description. If it can't read a section, that section effectively doesn't exist. Multi-column layouts, tables, text inside images and non-standard headings are the usual culprits.

What to put in every section
- Professional summary
- Two to three sentences naming your role, years of experience, and your single biggest, quantified win. Make it unmistakably about the job you want.
- Work experience
- Reverse-chronological, with 2–4 bullets per role. Open each bullet with a strong verb and close it with a number: revenue, percentage, time saved, or scale handled.
- Skills
- List the exact hard skills and tools the posting names, plus the ones you'd be comfortable being interviewed on. Skip soft-skill clichés every applicant claims.
- Education and certifications
- Degree, school and graduation year, plus certifications that map to the role. Recent grads can lead with education; experienced applicants keep it short.
Eight rules that get interviews
- Lead every bullet with a result, then the action. Numbers earn a second look.
- Quantify wherever you honestly can: %, $, time saved and scale beat adjectives.
- Mirror the job description's exact skill and tool names so the ATS scores the overlap.
- Keep it to one page under ten years of experience; cut anything that isn't an outcome.
- Use a single column with standard headings: no tables, text boxes or graphics.
- Save and send as PDF unless the posting explicitly asks for DOCX.
- Tailor the top third (headline, summary, first role) to the specific job.
- Proofread out loud. One typo can cost you the interview.
Questions about building your resume
How does the AI writing work?
Give it a rough bullet or a flat job duty and the AI rewrites it to lead with impact, surface any real number you already mentioned, and use strong action verbs. It never invents metrics — where a figure would help but you haven't given one, it sharpens the wording instead of making one up. You always review a before/after and apply only what you like.
Will recruiters know it was written with AI?
No. The AI sharpens your real experience in your voice — it doesn't invent jobs or fabricate numbers. The result reads like a strong human-written resume because it's grounded in what you did.
Is the resume builder really free?
Yes. You can build a complete, ATS-safe resume and download it as a PDF for free. It just carries a small Ruubu mark in the footer. There's no credit card to start and no trial countdown. If you later want the mark removed plus AI rewrites and DOCX, the Resume Pass is $7.99/mo and cancels anytime.
Do I need to pay to download my resume?
No. Downloading a PDF is free. Paying only removes the small Ruubu mark and unlocks extras like AI writing, LinkedIn/PDF import and editable DOCX.
Will an ATS read my Ruubu resume correctly?
No builder can promise that, because every employer sets up its ATS differently. What Ruubu controls is the format: the ATS-safe templates are single-column with standard headings and real, selectable text, which applicant tracking systems parse most reliably. The free checker scores your resume against common ATS parsing rules and compares keywords with a job description you paste, before you apply.
What file formats can I download?
PDF (Letter and A4) on the free plan. Editable DOCX is available on a paid plan, for the rare posting that asks for Word format.
Can I import my existing resume or LinkedIn?
Yes, free with an account. Paste your LinkedIn URL, upload an existing PDF or DOCX, or scan a paper resume with your phone camera, and we turn it into an editable, ATS-safe resume you can refine.
Can I upload a paper resume?
Yes, free with an account. When you upload your resume, choose "Scan with camera" and photograph up to 5 pages with your phone. We turn them into an editable resume that keeps your own words. The photos are only used to read the text and are not stored.
How many resumes can I create?
Create and edit as many versions as you like. Keeping one tailored to each job you apply for makes each application match its posting more closely.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your resume is yours. We don't sell your data, and you can delete your content at any time from your account.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. The Resume Pass and Pro are both monthly and you can cancel anytime from Settings → Billing; you keep access until the end of the paid month.
