• Describing process instead of outcomes

  Fix: Phrases such as "wrote PRDs and ran sprint planning" describe the job, not your results. Lead with what changed for users or the business, then briefly say how you did it.

• Taking credit without context

  Fix: Metrics mean little without a baseline and time frame. Write "Grew weekly active teams from 4,200 to 6,100 in two quarters" and state your part, such as defining the problem, prioritizing and coordinating the launch.

• Not showing scope and stakeholders

  Fix: Readers want to know what you owned. Mention the product area, revenue or user base, the size of the engineering team and the executives or customers you worked with.

• Skipping discovery and data skills

  Fix: A PM resume with only delivery bullets looks like project management. Include customer interviews, experiment design, SQL or analytics work, and a decision you changed because of what you learned.

• Match the product stage and domain

  A PM posting at a seed-stage startup asks for range and speed, while one at a large platform asks for scale, process and influence. Reorder your bullets so the first ones fit the stage, the customer type and the metric the posting names, such as activation, revenue or reliability, and trim what does not fit. • Open the letter with a product opinion

  Start with a short, respectful observation about the company's product: a flow you tried, a gap you noticed or the bet you would test first.
