Account Manager resume summary examples

Pick the one closest to your level and replace the specifics with your own.

  • Entry level

Account coordinator turned associate account manager with two years supporting a 40-account portfolio in B2B software. Processed 150 renewals with no billing errors, kept account data in Salesforce current, and helped senior managers prepare quarterly reviews. Looking to own a mid-market book and grow renewal and expansion revenue.

  • Mid level

Account manager with five years owning a $4M book of 35 mid-market accounts in SaaS. Holds gross retention above 92%, runs structured business reviews, and has closed $900K in add-on revenue by tying expansion offers to usage data. Comfortable negotiating renewals and coordinating support, product and finance on behalf of the client.

  • Senior

Senior account manager with ten years managing enterprise relationships and a $12M book across 25 strategic accounts. Delivers net revenue retention above 115% through executive sponsor programs, multi-year renewals and cross-sell planning. Mentors two junior managers, owns forecasting for the region and partners with sales leadership on territory and coverage models.

Common mistakes on an account manager resume

  • Listing relationship-building without a revenue number

Fix: Replace lines like 'built strong client relationships' with the book you owned and what happened to it: accounts managed, dollar size, renewal rate and expansion revenue. A hiring manager should see the size of your book in the first bullet.

  • Blending new-logo wins with account growth

Fix: Account management is judged on the base you already hold. Separate renewals, upsells and cross-sells from any net-new selling, and label which is which so a recruiter does not read you as a quota-carrying seller or a pure service role.

  • Reporting revenue but never retention

Fix: Add gross retention, net revenue retention or logo churn for every role. A $6M book that shrank looks very different from one that grew to $7.5M, and screeners know that retention is the core metric for the job.

  • Omitting the commercial negotiation you led

Fix: Mention the contract terms you moved, such as multi-year renewals, price increases you landed without losing the client, or discounts you held back. Specific negotiation outcomes separate account managers from order takers.

What should an account manager resume include?

An account manager resume should open with a two or three line summary of your focus, then show each role as results rather than duties. Name the skills the posting asks for, such as gross revenue retention, net revenue retention and renewal forecasting. Start bullets with verbs like Grew, Retained and Negotiated, and give each one a number where you honestly have one. If you hold a credential such as Salesforce Certified Administrator, list it in its own section.

Account Manager resume questions

How long should an account manager resume be?

One page if you have under ten years of experience. Recruiters scan for retention and growth numbers, so cut anything that is not a measurable account outcome.

What metrics should an account manager resume include?

Net revenue retention, renewal rate, upsell and expansion dollars, churn reduction, and book-of-business size. Pair each bullet with a number tied to accounts you owned.

Which certifications help an account manager resume?

A Salesforce Certified Administrator or HubSpot credential signals CRM fluency, and a Certified Customer Success Manager (CCSM) shows you can defend and grow renewals.

Should I call myself an account manager or a customer success manager?

Use the title on your offer letter, then adjust the summary to match the posting. Account managers are usually tied to renewal and expansion revenue, while customer success managers focus on adoption. If your work covered both, say so in your headline.

How do I show account management results if I do not carry a quota?

Use the book you supported: renewal rate, accounts retained, churn avoided, upsell opportunities you handed to sales, and the speed at which you resolved escalations. Even without a quota, you can show dollar amounts you protected.
