Head-to-head

Zety vs Resume Genius: two 14-day trials that renew every 4 weeks

Zety and Resume Genius look alike at first: a cheap 14-day trial that turns into a charge every four weeks, a guided builder with suggested content and a TXT-only free download. The differences are in the trial price, the annual plan and the refund wording.

Ruubu is our product and appears at the end as a third option. Every statement about Zety and Resume Genius links to their own public pages, listed under Sources. We are not affiliated with either company.

Zety or Resume Genius: which is better?

Zety's trial is cheaper ($1.70 against $2.95) and its annual plan costs less ($71.40 against $95.40). Resume Genius states a clearer refund: a full refund if you ask within 14 days. Both renew at $23.95 every four weeks after the trial.

Both companies bill every 4 weeks after the trial, which is 13 charges a year. Prices are from their US price pages.

What the trial and the first year cost

Zety's trial is $1.70 for 14 days; Resume Genius charges $2.95 for 14 days. After the trial both renew at $23.95, billed every 4 weeks, which is 13 charges a year if you never cancel.

For a long search both sell a year up front. Zety's annual plan is $71.40 ($5.95 a month); Resume Genius charges $95.40 for 12 months ($7.95 a month). Both annual plans renew each year.[1][4]

Refunds and cancelling

Resume Genius's price page offers a full refund if you ask within 14 days, and its terms say a full refund may be given within the 14-day term when requested by phone, email or live chat before it ends. Zety's terms say you may request a refund if you cancel before the end of the initial period, and that refunds are not guaranteed.

Both have a self-serve cancel: Zety in the My Plan section of the account dashboard, Resume Genius under My Account, then My Subscription. Both also take cancellations by phone or chat. After cancelling, Resume Genius's terms say documents become view-only.[4][7][9][6][8]

Builder and free tools

Both builders suggest pre-written content for your role and both free plans download plain text only. Zety's paid plan adds a Resume Check that flags 30+ issues and job recommendations. Resume Genius offers many free tools outside the builder, including a resume checker and fill-in Word and Google Docs templates, plus software support in several languages.

Neither lists a tool that tailors a resume to a specific job posting on the pages we read, and neither lists interview preparation.[1][11][5][2][3]
