Logistics Manager resume example

A logistics manager is judged on freight moving on time at a known cost. Directors scanning your resume want lanes, modes and volume: truckload, LTL, intermodal or parcel, shipments a week, freight spend you controlled. Then they look for proof such as on-time percentage, cost per shipment, carrier scorecards and the TMS or WMS you ran day to day.

Logistics Manager resume summary examples

Pick the one closest to your level and replace the specifics with your own.

  • Entry level

Logistics coordinator with three years booking truckload and LTL freight for a building products distributor, handling 260 shipments a week across 4 states. Built a carrier scorecard that moved on-time delivery from 89% to 95% in two quarters. Comfortable in a TMS, Excel and dock scheduling tools, and completing the ASCM CLTD certification this year.

  • Mid level

Logistics manager running inbound and outbound transportation for two distribution centers, 1,400 loads a month across truckload, LTL and intermodal. Rebid 60 lanes and shifted short-haul LTL into multi-stop routes, lowering cost per shipment 9%. Leads a team of 7 planners and dispatchers, holds the CLTD, and owns the DOT hazmat training program.

  • Senior

Director-level logistics leader with fourteen years building regional distribution networks for food and consumer goods companies. Oversees 5 DCs, a 40-tractor private fleet and dedicated carrier contracts, and led a TMS rollout that brought freight audit in house. Delivered 97% on-time-in-full across peak seasons while holding transportation cost flat as volume grew 30%.

Common mistakes on a logistics manager resume

  • No volume, lanes or modes

Fix: "Managed transportation" could mean ten trucks or a national network. Give the scale in your first bullet for each job: shipments or loads a week, number of DCs, modes, main lanes and carrier count. A director hiring for a regional LTL network and one hiring for import drayage want different people, and only the details tell them which you are.

  • Cost savings with no baseline

Fix: "Saved 12% on freight" raises the question: against what? Tie each saving to its base and its cause, such as a carrier rebid, mode shift from LTL to multi-stop truckload, better cube on trailers or fewer accessorial charges. Say how you measured it, for example cost per shipment over two quarters, so the claim survives the interview.

  • Listing software without what you did in it

Fix: A row of system names is weak on its own. Say what you configured or ran: routing guides in the TMS, dock scheduling, slotting rules in the WMS, freight audit exceptions, or a carrier scorecard built in Excel or Power BI. If you led an implementation, name the scope and the go-live date.

  • Leaving out safety and compliance

Fix: Logistics leaders answer for DOT, OSHA and customer audit findings. Mention hazmat shipping, driver qualification files if you ran a private fleet, forklift training programs, C-TPAT or customs work and recordable injury rates on your docks. One clear compliance bullet shows you can be trusted with the parts of the job that go wrong expensively.

What should a logistics manager resume include?

A logistics manager resume should open with a two or three line summary of your focus, then show each role as results rather than duties. Name the skills the posting asks for, such as Full Truckload (FTL), Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) and Intermodal. Start bullets with verbs like Routed, Negotiated and Consolidated, and give each one a number where you honestly have one. If you hold a credential such as ASCM Certified in Logistics, Transportation and Distribution (CLTD), list it in its own section.

  • Shifted 120 long-haul loads a month from truckload to intermodal, trimming transit cost while keeping delivery windows within one day.
  • Trained 9 planners and dispatchers on load building and the routing guide, cutting off-guide tenders from 18% to 4%.

How to stand out as a logistics manager applicant

Tailor every application to the posting: the resume, the cover letter and the answers you prepare for the interview.

  • Lead with the network the posting describes

Read the posting for its mode mix and footprint: a single DC with parcel and LTL, a regional private fleet, or import drayage through a port. Move your matching experience into the top bullets and use the posting's own terms for KPIs. Older work in other modes can shrink to one line so the fit is obvious. Optimize your resume for a logistics posting

  • Open the cover letter with one network result

Pick the result closest to their pain: a rebid, a peak season, a TMS launch or a claims fix. Give the before and after in one sentence, then explain how you would approach their network in the first ninety days. Name the systems you share with them. Keep the letter under a page. Draft a logistics manager cover letter

  • Prepare a case story for each KPI you list

Interviewers will pick a number from your resume and ask how you got it. For each KPI, know the baseline, the change you made, who pushed back and how you measured the result. Expect scenario questions about a missed truck, a carrier going out of business or a weather shutdown at peak. Practice logistics interview questions

  • Check the posting's system and certification terms

Logistics postings mix many terms: TMS brand names, OTIF or OTD, CLTD or CSCP, 3PL or freight forwarder. Paste a posting into a keyword matcher and compare it with your resume. Add only the terms you can back up with a bullet, and use the posting's spelling of each one. Match your resume to the posting's terms

Logistics Manager resume questions

How is a logistics manager resume different from a supply chain manager resume?

Supply chain resumes lead with planning, sourcing and inventory. A logistics resume leads with physical movement: modes, lanes, carriers, docks, transit times and freight cost. If you did both, decide which the posting wants and put that work first. Keep demand planning or supplier negotiation to a line or two when the job is about trucks and warehouses.

Should I show freight spend if it was confidential?

Use a rounded scale rather than the exact figure, such as "managed freight spend in the eight figures" or a percentage reduction. Volume works too: loads a week, pallets a day or parcels a month. Never share contract rates, carrier names tied to pricing or customer data you agreed to keep private.

Do I need a certification like CLTD to be hired?

Most postings list certifications as preferred, not required. CLTD from ASCM is aimed squarely at logistics and distribution, so it is a useful signal if you lack a supply chain degree. If you ship hazardous materials, current DOT hazmat training is required by federal rule, and employers will want the date it was completed.

I came up from dispatch or the warehouse floor. How do I frame that?

That path is common and it is a strength. Show each step as its own role with a clear jump in scope: from routing loads to managing a team, then a budget, then a network. Keep one bullet from the floor years that proves you know the work, such as cutting dock-to-stock time.
