Front Desk Agent resume example

Hotel front office managers check a front desk resume for three things: you can run the property management system without slowing the line, you handle cash and card authorizations cleanly, and you can turn an upset guest around. Show check-ins per shift, property size, systems like OPERA or Cloudbeds, upgrade and loyalty numbers, and the shifts you cover, especially weekends and night audit.

Common mistakes on a front desk agent resume

  • Leaving out the property and its pace

Fix: A 40-room inn and a 900-room convention hotel are different jobs. State the property type, room count and typical arrivals per shift: "Checked in up to 140 arrivals on a 520-room resort's evening shift." A front office manager can then judge whether you have handled a lobby as busy as theirs.

  • Treating upselling as optional

Fix: Hotels often track upgrades and loyalty enrollments by agent, so a manager will ask. Put your numbers on the page: upgrades sold per month, loyalty sign-ups per quarter, parking or breakfast add-ons. If you led the desk in any of them, say so with the team size. A count alone is fine when you do not know the revenue.

  • Skipping cash and card controls

Fix: Front desk agents handle deposits, incidental holds, folio adjustments and refunds. Mention drawer accuracy, card handling rules you followed and how you applied comps or rebates with manager approval. These lines show you can be trusted with guest accounts on a shift where no supervisor is standing next to you.

  • Describing complaints instead of recoveries

Fix: "Dealt with difficult guests" says nothing. Write the recovery and the result: "Moved a family from a room with a broken AC within 15 minutes and added breakfast, turning the stay into a five-star review that named me." One or two recovery stories with outcomes say more about your service than adjectives can.

What should a front desk agent resume include?

A front desk agent resume should open with a two or three line summary of your focus, then show each role as results rather than duties. Name the skills the posting asks for, such as Check-In and Check-Out, Early Arrivals and Late Departures and Guest Requests. Start bullets with verbs like Checked in, Upsold and Resolved, and give each one a number where you honestly have one. If you hold a credential such as Certified Front Desk Representative (CFDR), AHLEI, list it in its own section.

How to stand out as a front desk agent applicant

Tailor every application to the posting: the resume, the cover letter and the answers you prepare for the interview.

  • Match the property type

A resort wants upselling, activities and long arrival lines. A business hotel wants speed, loyalty members and corporate rates. A boutique hotel wants a personal touch and multitasking with concierge or bar duties. Lead with the property most like theirs, use their PMS name if you know it and put shift availability in your summary. Tailor your front desk resume

  • Name the property and one guest moment

Address the letter to the front office manager if you can find the name. Say why that property, then share one short guest moment that shows how you work: a recovery, an upgrade that made someone's trip or a busy arrival rush you kept moving. Close with the shifts you can cover and when you can start. Write a front desk cover letter

  • Rehearse check-in and recovery scenarios

Expect scenario questions: a guest arrives and the room is not ready, a card declines, or the hotel is oversold. Practice a calm, step-by-step answer for each, and be ready to role-play a check-in from greeting to key handoff. Smile, make eye contact and ask how the desk is staffed on the busiest nights. Practice front desk interview questions

  • Keep your LinkedIn in step with your resume

Hotel groups and staffing agencies also find front desk candidates on LinkedIn. Use a headline with your role, property type and languages, list your PMS and certifications, and add a short About section with your shift availability. Make sure dates and titles match your resume exactly, so a recruiter who checks both sees the same story. Polish your hospitality LinkedIn

Front Desk Agent resume questions

How do I get a front desk agent job with no hotel experience?

Show the hotel skills you already use elsewhere. A restaurant host stand, a retail register, a call center or a gym front desk all involve greeting people, handling money, working a computer system and calming upset customers. Give each a number. List any languages you speak, consider the AHLEI guest service certification, and say clearly that you can work nights, weekends and holidays.

Should I list the property management system I used?

Yes, by name: OPERA PMS, OPERA Cloud, Cloudbeds, Mews or a brand's own system. Systems differ, but the concepts carry over, such as arrivals lists, folios, routing, rate codes and room status. If you have learned two systems, say so, since it shows you will pick up theirs quickly. Add key card encoding and any guest messaging tools.

How do I show night audit experience?

Give it its own bullet or role line. Say how many rooms, how many nights a week and what you ran: balancing the day, posting room and tax, processing no-shows, checking rates against reservations and printing reports. If you were the only person on duty, mention security rounds and late check-ins. Night audit experience can help you move to supervisor roles.

What numbers can a front desk agent put on a resume?

Arrivals per shift, property room count, upgrades sold per month, loyalty sign-ups, guest review mentions by name, front desk survey scores, drawer accuracy and the number of new agents you trained. If you know the upgrade revenue you brought in, add it; if not, the count works. Each number should come from a report or log you could point to.

Do languages matter on a front desk resume?

They can, especially in cities and resorts with many international guests. List each language with an honest level and say how you use it: "conversational Japanese for arrivals and directions." Do not overstate. A guest who switches languages expecting fluency will notice, and so will a manager who tests you in the interview.
