Sales Development Representative resume example

SDR managers want a pipeline record before anything else: meetings held against quota, the share that became sales-accepted opportunities, and the pipeline those meetings created. Name your sequencing tools, your daily call and email volume, and the buyer you prospected into, such as HR directors at 200-person companies. A ramp story with month-by-month attainment beats a list of soft skills.

Common mistakes on a sales development representative resume

  • Reporting activity without outcomes

Fix: Eighty dials a day says little by itself. Pair activity with what it produced: meetings held, show rate, opportunities and pipeline. "Averaged 70 dials and 40 personalized emails a day, booking 18 held meetings a month at 112% of quota" connects effort to results in one line, which is what a sales manager is scanning for.

  • Hiding who you sold to

Fix: Your ideal customer profile tells a manager whether your skills carry over. Name the industry, company size, buyer title and territory for each role. Someone hiring for mid-market fintech wants to know you have reached CFOs at 500-person companies, not only that you hit quota. One line per role is enough.

  • Counting booked meetings instead of held ones

Fix: Booked meetings include no-shows, so a careful reader discounts them. Use the metric your team was measured on, usually held meetings or sales-accepted opportunities, and say which it is. If you tracked show rate or the share of meetings that turned into opportunities, add it. It proves your meetings were real.

  • Leaving out the messaging you built

Fix: If you wrote sequences, tested subject lines, rebuilt a call opener or created a case-study email, say so with the result. "Rewrote a five-step sequence and lifted reply rate from 3% to 7%" shows you think about why buyers respond, which is the skill that gets SDRs promoted.

What should a sales development representative resume include?

A sales development representative resume should open with a two or three line summary of your focus, then show each role as results rather than duties. Name the skills the posting asks for, such as Cold Calling, Cold Email and LinkedIn Outreach. Start bullets with verbs like Prospected, Booked and Qualified, and give each one a number where you honestly have one. If you hold a credential such as HubSpot Inbound Sales Certification (HubSpot Academy), list it in its own section.

How to stand out as a sales development representative applicant

Tailor every application to the posting: the resume, the cover letter and the answers you prepare for the interview.

  • Match the posting's buyer and sales motion

Read the posting for segment, buyer title and motion: inbound, outbound or account-based. Move the role and bullets that match to the top, and use their wording for the metric, such as "sales-accepted opportunities" or "held meetings." If they sell to IT leaders and you sold to HR, show the research and sequencing habits that would carry over. Match your SDR resume to a posting

  • Write the cover letter like a good cold email

Keep it short. Open with one sentence on why their product caught your attention, then give your strongest number and the buyer it came from. Close with a clear ask, such as a 20-minute call. An SDR manager may read the letter as a sample of your outreach, so cut every line that would not survive in a prospecting email. Draft an SDR cover letter

  • Rehearse a live cold call

Prepare for a role-play: a cold call to a mock buyer or an email you write on the spot. Research the company's customer, prepare an opener and two discovery questions, and practice handling "just send me an email" and "we already have a tool." Be ready to walk through your numbers month by month and explain a slow month honestly. Practice SDR interview questions

  • Turn your activity data into bullets

Export a year of activity and outcomes from your CRM or engagement tool: dials, emails, connects, meetings held, opportunities and closed pipeline. Pick the three numbers that show the full path from effort to revenue. Then draft bullets that lead with the outcome and name the channel that drove it, so each line reads as proof rather than a duty. Generate SDR resume bullets

Sales Development Representative resume questions

How do I write an SDR resume with no sales experience?

Look for work where you hit targets through volume and rejection: a university phonathon, restaurant upselling, call center retention, door-to-door fundraising or recruiting. Give each a number, such as pledges per shift or upgrades sold. Add a free HubSpot Academy certification and, if you can, a sample three-step outreach sequence you wrote for the company's buyer. Coachability matters, so mention feedback you acted on quickly.

Should I put quota attainment percentages on my resume?

Yes. Attainment is the clearest proof an SDR manager can read. Say what the quota measured, such as held meetings or sales-accepted opportunities, and over what period: "118% of monthly held-meeting quota, averaged over six quarters." If dollar figures are confidential, percentages and team rank still work. Keep your own records, because interviewers may ask you to walk through the numbers month by month.

What is the difference between an SDR and a BDR resume?

Companies use the titles differently. At some, SDRs work inbound leads and BDRs prospect outbound; at others it is the reverse or the same job. Use the title the posting uses in your headline if it matches your work, then state the split plainly in your bullets, for example "70% outbound into mid-market finance teams, 30% inbound demo requests."

How do I show I am ready for an Account Executive promotion?

Add evidence that you already do part of the AE job. Ran discovery calls on your own, joined demos, closed small deals, built territory plans or mentored newer reps. Give the timeline too: "Promoted to Senior SDR in 11 months." If you are applying for an AE role, move the closing-adjacent bullets to the top and keep pure activity numbers brief.

Which sales tools should I list?

List the CRM (Salesforce, HubSpot), the engagement platform (Outreach, Salesloft, Apollo), data tools (ZoomInfo, Sales Navigator), your dialer and call review software such as Gong. Only list tools you have used on the job, and group them on one line. In bullets, show a tool doing work: a sequence you built in Outreach or a list you tiered in Sales Navigator.
