Resume.io vs Zety: two trial-and-renew builders compared

Resume.io and Zety both start with a cheap trial that renews every 4 weeks, and both let you build for free but download little. They differ in trial length, annual plans, refund wording and what the subscription includes.

Ruubu is our product and appears at the end as a third option. Every statement about Resume.io and Zety links to their own public pages, listed under Sources. We are not affiliated with either company.

Resume.io or Zety: which is better?

Zety has the longer, cheaper trial ($1.70 for 14 days) and an annual plan; Resume.io's $2.95 trial lasts 7 days but its subscription adds job-based tailoring, AI interview prep and a tracker with a Chrome extension. Both renew every 4 weeks: $23.95 at Zety, $29.95 at Resume.io.

RenewalResume.ioBoth plans on the US price page auto-renew. The same page's FAQ calls the post-trial plan a monthly membership, while the plan card says every 4 weeks.[4]ZetyBoth plans auto-renew until you cancel.[2]
RefundsResume.ioThe price page promises a 7-day money-back guarantee, while the Terms of Service say no refunds are provided for subscriptions (the EU supplemental terms keep a money-back guarantee on the 7-day trial).[4][7]ZetyThe terms say you may request a refund if you cancel before the end of the initial period, and that Zety does not guarantee refunds. The US price page prints no money-back promise.[8][2]
CancellingResume.ioWithout logging in: the Cancel Subscription tab of the contact page, look up your account by email and confirm through the email they send. Logged in: Account Settings, then the My Plan box. Email support@resume.io if neither works.[9]ZetyCall or chat with support, or cancel yourself in the My Plan section of your account dashboard. Zety emails a cancellation number to confirm.[10][8]

Both companies bill every 4 weeks after the trial, which is 13 charges a year. Prices are from their US price pages.

What the first month really costs

Zety's trial costs $1.70 for 14 days and then renews at $23.95 every 4 weeks. Resume.io's costs $2.95 for 7 days and then renews at $29.95 every 4 weeks. If you forget to cancel, the first full charge comes a week sooner at Resume.io and is higher.

For a longer search the plans diverge. Zety sells a year for $71.40 ($5.95 a month), which renews each year. Resume.io's US page has a quarterly plan at $49.95 every 3 months and no annual plan.[4][2]

Refunds and cancelling

Resume.io's price page promises a 7-day money-back guarantee, but its Terms of Service say subscriptions are not refunded, with a money-back guarantee on the 7-day trial in the EU supplemental terms. Zety's terms say a refund may be requested if you cancel before the end of the initial period, and that refunds are not guaranteed.

Both make cancelling reasonably direct. Resume.io lets you cancel without logging in through its contact page, by looking up your email. Zety lets you cancel in the My Plan section of your account, or by phone or chat, and emails a cancellation number.[4][7][9][8][10]

Writing help and job tools

Zety leans on content: expert-written and AI suggestions for your role while you write, plus a resume check that flags 30+ issues and job recommendations. Resume.io leans on the job: paste a description and it pre-builds the resume to match, then adds AI interview prep and a job tracker fed by a Chrome extension.[2][11][3][1][5]

Pick Resume.io if

  • You want the subscription to cover tailoring to a posting, interview prep and a job tracker.
  • You apply through many job boards and want a Chrome extension that saves postings.
  • You would rather cancel without logging in.

Pick Zety if

  • You want a longer trial (14 days) at a lower price.
  • You will use the builder all year: the annual plan is $5.95 a month.
  • You want suggested phrases for your role while you write.

A third option: Ruubu

If neither trial model appeals, Ruubu works differently. You check and edit for free and download a PDF with a small mark without paying. When you pay, it is a calendar-month price for help preparing each application.

Ruubu is not better at everything: it has no browser extension and no phrase library like Zety's.

Try Ruubu with a job link
  • A free resume check out of 100 on 14 rules, with no account.
  • A free match score from any job link; a tailored version per job on Pro ($19.99/mo).
  • Cover letters, interview prep kits and translation into 15 languages on the Resume Pass ($7.99/mo).
  • The Resume Pass starts with a 7-day free trial, and we email you before the trial ends. Ruubu bills once a month ($7.99/mo for the Resume Pass), you cancel in one click in Settings, and your first payment is refundable in full for 7 days.
  • No browser extension, no mobile app and no pre-written phrase library.
