Housekeeper resume example

Housekeeping managers hire for pace and inspection results. Your resume should show how many rooms or homes you clean per shift, the scores you earn on room checks, how you handle chemicals safely, and that you can be trusted alone in a guest's room or a client's home.

Housekeeper resume objective examples

An objective fits when you have no direct experience in the role yet. Name the role, the proof you already have and what you will bring to the team.

  • First job

Recent high school graduate applying for a room attendant role. Cleaned my family's two-unit rental property for three years and helped on my church's weekly cleaning crew. Available weekends, holidays and early starts.

  • Career changer

Restaurant server with five years of closing duties, sanitizing stations and handling guest complaints, applying for a hotel housekeeping role. Completed food-safety training at work and understand chemical labels and cleaning logs. Looking for steady day shifts and a set room board.

Common mistakes on a housekeeper resume

  • Listing duties instead of room counts

Fix: "Cleaned rooms and made beds" describes every applicant. Give the number of rooms or homes per shift, the mix of checkouts and stayovers and the size of the property. A line like "cleaned 15 checkout rooms per shift in a 300-room hotel" tells a manager you can carry a full board.

  • Leaving out inspection results

Fix: Supervisors inspect rooms against a checklist, and many properties score them. If you passed inspections consistently, inspected other attendants or got named in guest comments, say so. It proves your speed does not come from skipping high dusting, under-bed checks or bathroom grout.

  • Ignoring chemical and safety training

Fix: Housekeepers handle concentrated cleaners every day. Mention that you read Safety Data Sheets, dilute through the dispensing system, keep bleach and ammonia products apart and wear the right gloves. Add any Hazard Communication or bloodborne pathogens training and any injury-free record.

  • Hiding trust and key control

Fix: You work alone in guest rooms and private homes, so honesty matters as much as cleaning. Mention lost-and-found items you logged and returned, keycard or master key responsibility, valuables you handled by the book and any background check you passed. Long tenure with one family also signals trust.

What should a housekeeper resume include?

A housekeeper resume should open with a two or three line summary of your focus, then show each role as results rather than duties. Name the skills the posting asks for, such as Checkout Rooms, Stayover Service and Turndown Service. Start bullets with verbs like Cleaned, Inspected and Restocked, and give each one a number where you honestly have one. If you hold a credential such as Certified Guestroom Attendant (CGRA), AHLEI, list it in its own section.

Housekeeper resume bullet examples

The numbers are illustrative. Keep the structure (verb, action, measurable result) and use figures you can back up.

How to stand out as a housekeeper applicant

Tailor every application to the posting: the resume, the cover letter and the answers you prepare for the interview.

  • Match the setting and the board size

A resort, a select-service hotel, a hospital and a private family each want different proof. Note the room count, shift and setting in the posting first. Then lead with your closest experience, use the posting's job title and move bullets about suites, isolation rooms or fine surfaces up or down to fit. Adjust your resume to this property

  • Open your letter with attendance

Housekeeping managers worry most about call-outs and no-shows. Start your letter with your attendance record and the shifts you can cover, then name the property and something specific about it, such as its size, season or type of guest. Add one short example of a guest or supervisor noticing your work. Write a housekeeping cover letter

  • Be ready to clean a room on the spot

Many hotels and agencies include a working interview: you clean a room while a supervisor watches and times you. Practice making a bed with tight corners and know your bathroom order. Expect questions about finding cash in a room, handling an upset guest and what you do when you cannot finish your board. Prepare for a housekeeper interview

  • Line up references before the background check

Hotels, hospitals and household agencies often run a background check and call references before an offer, because you will work alone near other people's belongings. Ask two supervisors who can speak to your honesty and attendance, and make sure your job dates match what they will say. Check your housekeeper resume

Housekeeper resume questions

Should I list how many rooms I clean per shift?

Yes. The room count is the first number a housekeeping manager looks for. Give your usual count and the mix of checkouts and stayovers, because checkouts take longer. Pair it with an inspection score so your speed does not look like skipped steps. If quotas changed between properties, give a range.

Do I need a certification to work as a housekeeper?

Most hotel and residential jobs require no license, and employers train you on their own standards. A credential still helps: AHLEI offers the Certified Guestroom Attendant for hotels, and AHE offers the CHEST credential for hospital environmental services. List any training with the issuer and year.

How do I show seasonal hotel work without it looking like gaps?

Resorts, ski lodges and summer properties close or cut staff between seasons. Write the season on the job line, for example "Seasonal, May to October", and group repeat seasons with one employer under a single entry. Being rehired season after season proves reliability, so say so.

What should a private household housekeeper include?

Private clients care about trust, discretion and care of their belongings. Mention the size of the home, the tasks you own, such as laundry, ironing, marble or hardwood care, silver and pet routines, how long you worked for the family and whether you held keys or alarm codes. Never name clients publicly.
